Fern Valley - along the camp site #3 trail

As you descend into Fern Valley in the winter, you will notice a nice contrast between the browns and grey of the forest to the lush greens of the valley. Year around, the ferns in this valley stay green and add life to the surrounding dorment winter forest. From either direction on the camp 3 trail, you will descend steeply into this valley. Once you're within the valley, there is a large flat camp site (unofficial) next to the North Prong River (Creek) which surrounds the camp site on two of four sides. Some level of water can be found here all year, however, in the summer, don't plan on the water to be flowing. Usually, around the fall and up through spring, the water in this valley is flowing, but my experience has been that the water here is a slow moving creek vs. raging waters.
